Cassi Starc is an Occupational Therapist, a Mindfulness Teacher, and owner of Flourish Healthcare Education & Mindfulness. Cassi has a passion for providing highly practical education and mentorship. She has mentored OT students, new graduates, and experienced OTs transitioning to new areas of practice. You can expect to leave her courses ready to implement changes in your practice the very next day. Cassi has a background in mental health, brain injury, and chronic pain. She has had training and supervision in a number of approaches which inform her teaching style including: Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), CBT for Insomnia, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Mindful Self Compassion, and more. Learning Objectives


Module 1: Understanding Trauma & The Brain

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the signs & symptoms of trauma and trauma-related disorders
  • Define the most common trauma related disorders
  • Describe the neurobiology of trauma and its implications for treatment approaches using a variety of metaphors, visuals, and multimedia resources to match your clients learning styles
  • Educate your clients on the key components of trauma using evidence-based sources

Module 2: A Practical Guide to Trauma Informed Care

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the prevalence of trauma in the general public.
  • Identify the signs & symptoms of trauma.
  • Describe the six core principles of TIC and associated practical actions.
  • Choose practical strategies for a trauma-informed care practice.

Module 3: Trauma Assessment & Treatment

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Practice interpretation of evidence-based trauma-related screens and assessments.
  • Order and grade interventions in your treatment plan through a trauma-lens.
  • Apply trauma treatment guidelines to your own scope through application to case studies.

Module 4: Self-Care for Healthcare Providers

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify the trauma exposure response within the context of your own life. 
  • Choose effective self-care tools to mitigate trauma exposure response that work for you.
  • Summarize relevant interventions within a “Self-Care Plan”.

Module 5: Application to Case Studies

You will then be able to select a relevant case study and work through application questions to integrate your learning. You may submit your application to [email protected] for feedback to support your application of the materials covered into your own practice.

1.Practice & apply comprehensive trauma education using a variety of presenter and audience-presented case studies using various metaphors and multimedia resources matched to individual client context.

2. Analyze practical actions to improve trauma informed care in your practice and/or organization.

3. Demonstrate proficiency in using trauma screens & assessments.

4. Order and organize your treatments in a graded way through a trauma lens.

5. Analyze trauma exposure responses and how they arise in your everyday life. Apply personally relevant self-care tools through creating a self-care plan.
