Module Overview
Welcome to Module 3: Trauma Specific Assessment & Treatment. This module builds upon the foundational knowledge you have gained in Modules 1 & 2. If you're thinking... "but I don't treat trauma" - don't worry. This module isn't about learning how to directly treat trauma, but instead it is focused on how to appropriately screen for trauma-related disorders (& refer out), as well as how to adjust treatments to improve outcomes for clients experiencing trauma symptoms or disorders. This goes a step beyond the sort of "universal design" approach that TIC principles offer, outlined in Module 2.
We will review specific screens you can use where there has been a "big T" singular traumatic event (like a car accident) that has occurred, where something like the ACEs screen wouldn't be appropriate. We will also deep dive into additional tools and modifications for when there you know your client is currently experiencing clinical significance of symptoms (in other words - there is a diagnosis, which requires symptoms meet a threshold that causes significant dysfunction).
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Practice interpretation of evidence-based trauma-related screens and assessments.
- Debate which interventions in your treatment plan should occur in what order & with what modifications through a trauma-informed lens.
- Apply trauma treatment guidelines to your own scope through application to case studies.
In each module, there will be lessons focused on each of the learning objectives. You will find a lesson introduction, a video lesson with me, related treatment resources (think papers, handouts, videos), and self-reflection questions. So go ahead and download the slides for this module & set aside about 2 hours to cover Module 3, or break it up lesson by lesson!
